Methodist Hospitals First in NWI Region to Offer Patients a New Heart Failure Monitoring Solution - March 30, 2015

Seminar Scheduled to Educate Members of the Community

Who: Methodist Hospitals is the first facility in the Northwest Indiana Region and the Chicagoland area to implant a new miniaturized, wireless monitoring sensor to manage heart failure (HF). The CardioMEMS HF System is the first and only FDA-approved heart failure monitoring device that has been proven to significantly reduce hospital admissions when used by physicians to manage heart failure.

What: A Community Seminar will be held to educate patients with Congestive Heart Failure. Physician presenters will be:

  • Dr. Andre Artis, Medical Director of the Heart & Vascular Institute at Methodist Hospitals
  • Dr. Kais Yehawai, Cardiologist on staff at Methodist Hospitals

The CardioMEMS HF System features a sensor that is implanted in the pulmonary artery (PA) during a non-surgical procedure to directly measure PA pressure. Increased PA pressures appear before weight and blood pressure changes, which are often used as indirect measures of worsening heart failure. The new system allows patients to transmit daily sensor readings from their homes to their health care providers allowing for personalized and proactive management to reduce the likelihood of hospitalization.

When: Thursday, April 9, 2015, at 5:30 p.m. at the Southlake Campus, 8701 Broadway, Merrillville, in the Auditorium located in the lower level. Enter through main entrance of the hospital.
