Methodist Hospital’s Emergency Room Physician Tests Positive for COVID-19 - March 20, 2020
A physician who worked at Methodist Hospitals’ Emergency Department between March 14 and March 16, 2020 has tested positive for COVID-19. The physician was wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) while interacting with patients during those shifts. The physician has been placed into quarantine and has not been on duty since that time. Indications are that the virus was contracted outside the Hospital setting.
Coworkers from those shifts were informed, have been wearing PPE, and have been regularly screened for symptoms. Methodist has worked with the Indiana State Department of Health, has identified and is advising impacted patients.
The safety and wellbeing of patients and employees is the number one priority of Methodist Hospitals. We follow CDC guidelines for the use of PPE as well as best practices for infection control. We recognize that our staff are on the front lines of this public health emergency, and we are doing everything in our power to support them as they provide compassionate care in the most difficult circumstances.
