Special dedication of Jeff DeCamp Field April 27
The City of La Porte Park and Recreation Department and DeCamp’s Band of Brothers Foundation will host a special dedication of Jeff DeCamp Field at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 27, at Clarke Park. Following the ceremony, the “dedication game” will take place with the La Porte Wreckers 14U playing J-Shock, a squad out of the Elkhart area.
The first phase of the Clarke Park project is nearly finished, with the baseball field regraded, a grass infield with irrigation constructed and fencing installed. The dugouts, bullpens and ADA-compliant spectator areas are scheduled to be completed this spring. The second phase, to be done later this year or in early 2020, includes replacing and relocating the playground to the east side of the park. Future additions may include a picnic shelter, basketball court and off-street parking.
The DeCamp’s Band of Brothers Foundation was started in 2014 by friends of Jeff DeCamp who sought to honor their long-time friend who passed away a year earlier at the age of 42. Jeff loved and played all sports and was on the 1987 La Porte High School baseball team that won the Indiana State Championship. Jeff made lifelong friends through sports and learned valuable life lessons through his participation. It is this passion for sports, love for kids and amazing capacity to help others that the foundation wants to perpetuate in Jeff’s name.
