GARY РMethodist Hospitals has completed more than $12 million in renovations at its Northlake campus in Gary. The project, which took 14 months to complete, includes improvements to its emergency room and existing intensive care unit, along with the construction of a new ICU.

The renovated emergency department includes 15 large rooms with nurse work stations, along with a centralized station for nurses and physicians with easy access to every room. It also features a fast-track area for quick treatment of patients with less critical needs.

“Methodist Hospitals has long been known as the premiere provider of emergency services in this region,” said Ray Grady, chief executive officer of Methodist Hospitals. “The completion of this project enables our physicians, nurses and staff to continue the lifesaving work that takes place in our hospital each and every day.”

The renovated ICU features six beds while the new ICU features 12 beds. The health system says the renovations to the existing ICU allowed for the creation of a surgical/trauma ICU to support the hospital’s “in process” Level III Trauma Center.

The rooms in each ICU can accommodate the latest technologies. Jeannette White, director of acute critical care at the campus, says the facilities make the hospital better prepared to care for patients with the most critical needs.
