Accreditation with Commendation
Methodist Hospital’s Comprehensive Cancer Program has been accredited by the American College of Surgeons since 1974. Only one in four hospitals that treat cancer receive this recognition.
Awards
Methodist Hospitals is the FIRST hospital in NWI to be accredited by the American College of Surgeon’s National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. Methodist Hospitals is a recipient of the 5-Star Investor and 5-Star Community Investor Awards from the American Cancer Society (ACS). In addition, we have partnered with the ACS on multiple fund-raising activities for cancer research and support services. Our commitment to the earliest possible detection of cancer is further exemplified by our participation in community health screenings and patient education.
Clinical Trials
In association with the University of Chicago, Methodist gives you access to the latest clinical trials including the Cancer and Leukemia Group B (CALGB) national clinical research trials.
Clinical trials include treatment trials, which attempt to find new treatment for people who have cancer, to prevention and early detection/screening trials to quality of life/supportive care trials. Participation in any clinical trial is voluntary and you are free to leave a trial at any time, for any reason.
Quality
Methodist Hospitals participates in the Cancer Registry Database. This Registry connects Methodist with a nationwide network of nearly 1,500 approved cancer programs, making us part of the larger fight against cancer. Through the Registry, we share cancer data with the National Cancer Database for comparison and quality management. Internally, we use the data collected for continuous improvement and to drive development of programs and services to benefit our patients. Genetics Counseling
Identify your potential health risks in order to make informed decisions. The counseling also helps identify your genetic results, and provides support throughout the process.

Lymphedema Clinic
Patients with lymphedema of the upper extremities can learn proper skin care, diet and exercises, massage and other compression techniques.

Cancer Patients’ Yoga Class
This class is specifically designed for people living with cancer and is taught by a Certified Hatha Yoga instructor. Hatha Yoga is the preferred yoga practice for cancer patients. It focuses on easy movement and body postures, meditation and brAZZeathing. Classes meet every other Thursday. Southlake Campus, Cancer Resource Center, Pavilion B, 200 E. 89th Ave, Merrillville.
