Lilly Oncology on Canvas, an art exhibition honoring the journeys traveled by millions of people affected by cancer worldwide, will be on display at Methodist Hospitals Center for Advanced Clinical Studies located at 200 East 89th. Avenue in Merrillville starting today, Monday, April 20 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. until Friday, April 24. There will be approximately 30 pieces of art on display. The art exhibit is open to the general public.
Lilly Oncology on Canvas was created in 2004 by Eli Lilly and Company and is a biennial competition that invites people diagnosed with any type of cancer, their families and friends, cancer advocates, health care providers, as well as artists and art students to express, through art and in narrative, their own cancer journeys.
In 2006, the second Lilly Oncology on Canvas competition received more than 2,000 entries from 43 countries. Art was accepted in the following media: acrylic, oil, pastel, photography, watercolor and “other,” which included one-dimensional mixed media.
Lilly Oncology on Canvas is presented by Eli Lilly and Company, an emerging world leader in cancer research and treatment, and in the United States in partnership with the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship (NCCS).
This exhibit will also be on display during Methodist Hospitals Spring Spa Day. Spring Spa Day, an event made possible through the efforts of the oncology services department at Methodist Hospitals and support through the Pink Ribbon Society, provides breast cancer patients and survivors an opportunity to be educated and pampered. This year’s event will be held on April 25, 2008 at Methodist Hospitals’ Center for Advanced Clinical Studies from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Registration is required for this event.
