The Methodist
Hospitals have always provided specialized care for heart patients.
The range of services made it possible to establish coronary care
as one of our first "Centers of Excellence" in 1984. The first open
heart surgery was performed in 1984.
The mission of The Methodist Hospitals Heart Institute is to serve
as a comprehensive resource for the prevention, detection, treatment
and rehabilitation of cardiovascular disease.
The Heart Institute has developed many valuable programs such as
Cardiac Alert, a pre-hospital and hospital program for the diagnosis
of an acute myocardial infarction within minutes of arrival to the
Emergency Department.
