His fellow coworkers call him the nighthawk. Ron Harris has worked midnights in the neuro unit for almost his entire career. His dedication and hard work were recently recognized by the Northwest Indiana Neuroscience Nurses Association. Ron was presented with an award celebrating his 20 years of outstanding service to the Neuroscience Community.
“Ron is a consummate professional. He has really taken on a leadership role and mentors the nurses around him. The staff depend on him and know that they can ask him for assistance or clarification whenever they need to,” stated Laurie Valentino, Director, Neuroscience Services.
The study of neuroscience and Methodist’s reputation for excellence drew Ron to first apply, “When I started, this unit had a reputation for being the best in the region. I met a lot of great people here that really shaped my nursing career. I still continue to learn everyday as technology advances and new techniques are used. I always felt that by learning about the brain you really developed a better understanding of how the whole body functioned.”
