Gary, Indiana – September 9, 2013, Methodist Hospitals announces the opening of a Medical Stabilization service at their Northlake Campus in Gary to better meet the needs of the community.. Medical stabilization provides patients with a safe withdrawal from alcohol and opiates and related health issues in a medically monitored setting. The service is for adults aged 18 and older who are highly motivated to break the cycle of addiction. “Substance abuse is a present and growing issue in every community, and at every income level. Medical stabilization is a key first step in effective long-term addiction management,” said Aaron Johns, M.D., Interim Medical Director of the new service.
The staff is comprised of a Medical Director, trained registered nurses and certified addiction counselors/intake coordinators who collaboratively work together to develop and implement the treatment plan. The discharge planning process, which involves appropriate referrals to further treatment once the patient is discharged, is an integral part of the services provided. Follow through with discharge plans is monitored by intake coordinators. The Medical Stabilization Unit provides an average 3-day medically supervised inpatient stay with 24 hour nursing care.
