METHODIST HOSPITALS AWARDED $25,000 GRANT FROM BEARS CARE - August 8, 2013
Gary, IN – Methodist Hospitals is the proud recipient of a $25,000 grant awarded by Bears Care, the charitable beneficiary of the Chicago Bears. Representatives from Bears Care and mascot Staley Da Bear will visit Methodist Hospitals’ Northlake Campus in Gary on Tuesday, August, 13, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. to present Methodist with the grant check. Staley will also visit patients in the pediatric and rehabilitation units.
This award was made possible by the success of Bears Care’s annual “Real Bears Fan Wear Pink” campaign. Methodist is one of nine Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana organizations which were recently awarded grants from Bears Care through this program. “Our fans and supporters in Northwest Indiana have been a big part of the campaign’s success during the past five years,” said Barb McCaskey, member of the Bears Care Board of Directors. “We are proud of the role that the National Football League and the Chicago Bears play in promoting breast cancer awareness and gratified that Bears Care can expand the opportunities for at-risk women in Northwest Indiana to access critical detection and diagnostic services.”
“Methodist Hospitals is proud to receive this $25,000 grant from Bears Care,” said Ian McFadden, President & CEO of Methodist Hospitals. “This grant will enable us to establish a program to provide annual free screening mammograms for 250 high risk, low income and /or minority women in Northwest Indiana. Methodist will match the grant so that the program will reach a total of 500 women. This program will be named “No Woman Left Behind” and our long-term goal for this program is to provide early diagnosis and improved outcomes for breast cancer treatment among this group of women. “
