VALPARAISO | The Orville Redenbacher Parade kicked off Sept. 7 at the 35th annual Popcorn Festival in downtown Valparaiso. The festival, sponsored by Valparaiso Community Festivals & Events, included the two-hour parade with more than 80 entries.
This year’s parade featured floats made mostly of popcorn that were created by area organizations and businesses. The judges selected Methodist Hospital Foundation’s “Methodist Belle” as the grand prize winning float. The complete list of awards for the 2013 parade include:
Grand Prize – Methodist Hospital Foundation; First Runner-up – St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church; Second Runner-up – Valparaiso Swim Club; Special Recognition – South Shore Roller Girls; Con Agra Golden Tassel Award – Prompt Ambulance; Community “Pop”ular Award – Taltree Arboretum; Best Little Kernel Award – Growing Kids Learning Center; Mr. Pop-N-Fest – Lumenus USA; Kernel Kup – Flanigan’s Bulk Mail.
