Methodist Hospitals was honored to receive the Rural Indiana Smoke-Free Environment (RISE) Award. This award is a joint award presented annually by the Indiana Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Agency and the Indiana Rural Hospital Association to healthcare facilities that had implemented a smoke free policy prohibiting any smoking by staff, patients and visitors in hospital buildings, on the grounds and in vehicles 24 hours a day. The award recognizes management and staff that have taken the necessary steps to lead Hoosiers toward a healthier Indiana. The term rural is loosely defined in order to recognize all healthcare facilities committed to a smoke free environment.
Methodist Hospitals campuses became completely smoke free on November 20, 2008.“We take our responsibility to promote healthy lifestyles seriously,” said Methodist Hospitals CEO/President Ian McFadden. “By having all of our facilities smoke free inside and out, we are taking a large step forward in providing an environment that is conducive to good health for all.”
