A Methodist Hospital employee, Latonya Lark, has recently won a Spirit Award for going beyond the call of duty to accommodate a patient. Lark is a technologist in Methodist Hospitals’ Northlake Neuro EDX department.
According to Laurel Valentino, Director of the Neuroscience Institute at Methodist Hospitals, Lark took it upon herself to work with the mother of a small child to schedule a test at 9 p.m. in order to accommodate the child’s needs, even though the department closes at 3 p.m. Valentino explained that this was because the mother thought 9 p.m. would be a time when the child could fall asleep so the test could be completed.
Valentino said, “Latonya is excellent at working with the kids that need EEGs and is an asset to the department. She acts as a role model for other employees by always putting the patient first.”
Spirit Awards are awarded to employees who exemplify the system’s Corporate Values, ICARE, and go above and beyond their job responsibilities. ICARE represents Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence.
