Methodist Hospitals announces executive leadership changes: Ed Charbonneau to serve as interim president/CEO upon resignation of James Berg

Methodist Hospitals' Board of Directors has accepted the resignation of President/CEO James A. Berg. Berg, who has served Methodist Hospitals in this position since July, 2003, cited personal reasons for his resignation, which takes effect immediately.

Ed Charbonneau, a board member since 1995, has been named Interim President/CEO. Charbonneau currently serves as Executive Director of the Northwest Indiana Local Government Academy and has also been appointed by Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels to the Indiana State Ethics Commission. He recently served a one year term as the Interim President of the Northwest Indiana Forum. Charbonneau served as director of governmental affairs at US Steel before his retirement in 2002 after 36 years of service.

Charles O. Davidson, M.D., will serve as Special Assistant to Charbonneau. Dr. Davidson, a Gary physician specialist in Obstetrics/Gynecology, has been a Methodist board member since 1979. Dr. Davidson served as a member of the hospital's Senior Management Medical Executive Group from 2001 to 2003. He was the chairman of the hospital's Board of Directors from 1994 to 1998 and has also served as the President of Methodist Hospitals Medical Staff.

The board has organized a Search Committee to permanently fill the position of President/CEO.
