Methodist Hospitals was recently presented with the Outstanding Achievement Award by the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer.

Methodist Hospitals was one of only 74 U.S. health care facilities with accredited cancer programs and the only hospital in Northwest Indiana to receive the honor last year. The award acknowledges cancer programs that achieve excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients.

“We are committed to providing the highest quality patient care, and this award reflects the commitment and dedication of our highly trained physicians and staff,” said Michael Davenport, president and interim CEO of Methodist Hospitals. “This award acknowledges that residents of Northwest Indiana can receive the same level of care right here in our community without having to travel out of the area for care.”

Methodist Hospitals’ cancer program was evaluated on 34 program standards categorized within five cancer program activity areas: cancer committee leadership, cancer data management, cancer conferences, clinical services and quality improvement.
