A local hospital official recently received a statewide award for her service to the health care community in Northwest Indiana.

Denise Dillard, chief consultant for governmental and external affairs at Methodist Hospitals in Gary and Merrillville, accepted the Indiana Hospital Association’s Award of Merit at a ceremony in the capital late last month.

IHA members say she earned the award for her dedication to advocating for the less fortunate users of the health care system.

“It’s critical we have people like Denise to let us never overlook our mission: our mission to the entire state, our mission to the impoverished, our mission to the disenfranchised, who our hospitals serve every day,” IHA President Doug Leonard said in a video shown at the awards ceremony. “It’s Denise’s voice, it’s Denise’s conscience, it’s Denise’s tenacity, that has really served the association well.”

Dillard has served on the IHA’s Government Relations council since 2008. In her role at Methodist Hospitals, she serves as a liaison between state legislators and members of the community.

“I think she is a genuine, persuasive face, not just for Methodist, but for health care overall in Northwest Indiana,” state Rep. Charlie Brown, D-Gary, said in the video. “She is 100 percent into health care.”
