The following is a list of hospitals with the lowest proportion of serious complications per hospital discharge.

This list was formed using the PSI 90 measure, known as the Patient Safety and Adverse Events Composite. According to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, PSI 90 is the weighted average of the observed-to-expected ratios for various component indicators, including pressure ulcer rate, sepsis, in-hospital fall with hip fracture and postoperative respiratory failure, among other components.

“The composite provides an overview of hospital-level quality as it relates to a set of potentially preventable hospital-related events associated with harmful outcomes for patients,” according to AHRQ.

The serious complication rates were pulled from Hospital Compare and represent data from July 2013 through June 2015, the most recent data available.

For reference, the national composite rate of serious complications per discharge is 0.9.
