Gamma Knife Radiosurgery

Having the only Gamma Knife in Northwest Indiana exemplifies Methodist Hospitals’ commitment to providing world class care.

Gamma Knife radiosurgery is a non-invasive, outpatient procedure used to eliminate tumors and other malformations deep within the brain. Located in the Center for Advanced Clinical Studies (CACS) at the Southlake campus, this non-surgical instrument delivers high dose, intensive radiation with pinpoint accuracy, sparing surrounding tissue.

The Gamma Knife team is comprised of medical specialists who work together to determine the best course of treatment and follow-up care. It includes a neurosurgeon, radiation oncologist, radiation physicist and specially trained Gamma Knife nurse and support staff.

Gamma Knife radiosurgery may be the best option for a variety of situations. These include brain lesions, malformed blood vessels (AVM), facial pain relief for trigeminal nerve problems, pituitary tumors, and acoustic neuromas.

Self-Screening

Patients who are seeking a second opinion and think they might be a candidate for Gamma Knife radiosurgery are encouraged to call Methodist Hospitals’ Gamma Knife Center to schedule a free screening.

An oncologist and a neurosurgeon will review the patient’s MRI films to determine whether or not they are an appropriate candidate for the procedure. If it is indicated, we will conference with the patient’s primary care physician before scheduling radiosurgery.
