Benefits
Even though we are in Northwest Indiana we have maintained a salary structure
that is competitive with residency programs in major cities. Below you
will find the salary structure and other benefits. However, there are
some intangible benefits that can not be quantified such as the warmth
of the people you will work with.
Salary
Post-Graduate Year 1:$33,114 * * Proposed 2006: $42,000
Post-Graduate Year 2:$34,278 * * Proposed 2006: $43,000
Post-Graduate Year 3:$35,714 * * Proposed 2006: $44,000
Note: 2006 PGY1 will also have a one time $1,500 relocation/startup
allowance.
Insurance benefits
Life, Professional liability, Disability and Health/Dental Insurance
Thrift/Savings Program
The hospital will match fifty cents per dollar contributions made to the
savings plan.
Lab coats, beepers and parking are all made available to the residents.
Vacation/CME leave
First years have two weeks vacation, second and third years have three
weeks vacation and an additional one week CME leave.
Every resident is given six sick days in each academic year.
CME/Book expense within each academic year, each resident is given
$1000 to spend on books or any approved CME course.
Call schedule
First year residents are on call every four days, second year every four
to six days, and third years every 7 days. Calls are usually double coverage
with a first year and another senior resident covering the hospital. Meals
are provided while on call.
Moonlighting
Allowed after the first six months with the approval of the Program Director.
BLS/ACLS are provided through the hospital.
The program covers the state temporary license fee in the first and second
years.
Besides the American Board of Family Practice Annual In-Training exam
a monthly Core curriculum test is given to assess each resident.
