Veterans Choice: Arranging an Appointment

Follow these simple steps to set up your appointment today.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has established a toll-free hotline that is dedicated to making sure that individual Veterans are eligible for the Veterans Choice Program and setting up non-VA care appointments with providers such as Methodist Hospitals.

The VA recommends following these three steps to set up an appointment:

  1. Gather your information about any other health insurance coverage you may have, such as employer or union-based health plans.
  2. Call 1-866-606-8198 to make sure you qualify and schedule an appointment. When you call, you will be walked through the following steps:
    •  You will be asked to enter your Zip Code, and first and last name.
    •  The VA will check to make sure you are eligible for this program.
    •  The VA will check which of your needs are covered by the VA.
    •  You will be asked for your address and the name of your preferred non-VA provider.
  3. The VA will then work with you to schedule an appointment.
