The Mission of the laboratory is to offer physicians a comprehensive portfolio of laboratory services that help in the diagnosis and therapeutic management of their patients. Using cutting edge technology, the laboratory strives to provide accurate, reliable, and clinically relevant data in a timely fashion.

The Methodist Hospitals, Inc. has a full service clinical laboratory at each Campus. Each is open twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Over a million laboratory tests were performed last year alone.

Additionally, there are two satellite laboratories at the following locations: Primary Care Associates, and Easton Court. The hours of operation and extent of testing done at these locations is limited.

The Methodist Hospitals Laboratory is a fully computerized facility offering physicians access to their patients' diagnostic information from any location. Cumulative reporting allows physicians to track their patients' progress over time.

PERSONNEL

Medical Directors
Board certified clinical and anatomical pathologists serve as Medical Directors of different sections within the laboratory. Pathology, and clinical laboratory services and consultation are regularly and conveniently available to meet the needs of individuals served.

Management Council
The management council consists of the service line managers, service unit managers and the other managers directly responsible for specific functional areas.
The council provides organization, direction, and staffing for laboratory services according to the scope of services offered. The council is responsible for developing long-range, strategic, and operational plans; service design; resource allocation; and laboratory policy.

Technical Staff
The laboratory is staffed with an adequate number of qualified employees.
All of the technical staff are certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP)
53% have at least a four year Bachelor's degree
35% have an Associates Degree.

Non-technical Staff
The non-technical staff consists of phlebotomists (serving both inpatients and outpatients), data entry clerks, secretaries, and couriers

Ongoing, periodic competence assessments evaluate the continuing ability of personnel to perform throughout their association with the laboratory. Technical and non-technical staff regularly attend continuing education programs to remain current in their field.
