A COMMITMENT
TO THE HEALING MISSION OF THE CHURCH
BRING BACK THE SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY
The Congregational
Nurse Program helps members live full, abundant, and healthy lives.
This planned and coordinated ministry provides the healing Jesus
offered - the unity of body, mind, and soul.
Certified, licensed
professionals are thus committed to meeting the congregation's physical,
emotional, and spiritual needs.
In the loving
Spirit of Christ, church members and all for whom there is a feeling
of obligation, are brought into the harmony and state of health
which is possible and essential for human life.
The Congregational
Nurse is a member of the congregation, using professional skills
to serve as a health advocate.
Each congregation
creates a program according to needs and the mission of its healing
ministry. Typically, the Congregational Nurse acts as a
Health
Educator - providing information on health-related topics
(disease prevention, screening for early detection, emotions in
illness, the connection of body and soul)
Personal
Health Counselor - available to assess problems, make referrals
to doctors or support agencies, offer care advice/instruction
Volunteer
Coordinator - expanding the healing ministry by providing
additional training to compassionate church members as they visit
the sick home-bound or provide other services
Support
Group Organizer - assuring that whether started within the
Church, or coordinated with other resources, the ministry expands
to offer this healing opportunity.
The Methodist
Hospitals is committed to providing the orientation and education
that is specific to the Congregational Nurse role.
This is wholistic
healthcare - connecting mind, body and spirit. It is essential to
health and healing. This wholistic approach is the link to the hospital's
mission . . . to enhance the health status of its communities.
Orientation
for Congregational Nurses is held regularly. For more information,
contact the Chaplaincy at (219) 886-4522.
