Visitors Can Learn the Importance of Colorectal Cancer Prevention
The Super Colon, an 8-foot tall, 20-foot long replica of a human colon, is headed to Methodist Hospitals Southlake Campus, March 19 - 20, 2008, as part of the Colon Cancer Awareness Event, Scope It Out, on March 19. The event includes 2 physician seminars and colon cancer risk assessments. The event starts at 5 pm, with the physician seminars starting at 6 pm. The Super Colon zigzags across the country serving as an educational tool to teach the importance of colorectal cancer screening. Colorectal cancer is 90 percent preventable and successfully treated 90 percent of the time, when detected early, yet it remains a leading cause of cancer deaths.

The Methodist Hospitals Cancer Program has cause to celebrate!
Following a rigorous on-site evaluation, the American College of Surgeons (ACOS) Commission on Cancer has granted the Cancer Program three-year accreditation, in recognition of the services provided and quality afforded. This accreditation comes with an even higher distinction of "Accreditation with Commendation", collecting nine out of a possible nine commendations for the program's commitment to excellence.

The American Heart Association is presenting Claude Watts, Jr, CEO/President, Methodist Hospitals with a special award to recognize Methodist Hospitals committment to the fight against heart disease and stroke in Northwest Indiana. The award will be presented at the AHA's Heart of Gold Ball held on Saturday, Feb 16 at the RAdisson Hotel in Merrillville.

Methodist Hospital named Top Hospital Fundraiser for the 4th Year in a Row
This year was Methodist Hospitals' most successful Heart Walk Campaign to date. The hospital raised nearly $70,000! “It was truly a team effort to once again achieve the distinction of being Northwest Indiana’s #1 fundraising hospital. Our employees came together and came up with very creative ways of raising funds,” stated Claude Watts, Jr., CEO/President.

Volunteers recently gathered at the Avalon Manor for their Annual Awards Luncheon. One hundred thirty five members were there to celebrate their accomplishments from the past year. They recognized tenured Volunteers and honored the memory of deceased Volunteers. Others were honored for their years of service or hours rendered.

Methodist Hospitals believes in providing quality care to even our smallest patients! Our comprehensive high-risk OB services include a monthly Free Neonatal Follow-Up Clinic. Patient's neonatologist writes the order for this clinic if they qualify, not all preemies get an order, the preemie must be less than 36 weeks or have other conditions.

Red Cap Survivors walk for life
After suffering a heart attack or going through open heart surgery, Methodist Hospital's cardiopulmonary rehab patients can't even begin to think about exercise, much less go for a three mile walk. Yet after attending rehabilitation and education sessions, 13 people in Methodist's rehab class will don red baseball caps identifying them as survivors and walk as part of the American Heart Association's Heart Walk.
