HOBART | Volunteers for the Methodist Hospitals Auxiliary recently gathered at Avalon Manor for their annual awards luncheon.
Celebrating their accomplishments were 135 members, who recognized tenured volunteers and honored the memory of volunteers who have died. Others were honored for their years of service or hours rendered.
Annually, the auxiliary donates scholarships to support nursing education. This year three $1,000 nursing scholarships were awarded.
In addition, one youth volunteer was awarded a $1,000 scholarship. Linda Rooda, dean of Nursing and Health Professions, expressed thanks to volunteers for their continued support.
The luncheon's highlight was the presentation of a $105,000 check to Chairman of the Board Charles Brooks and CEO Claude Watts by Fredrick Davidson, auxiliary president, and Verda Daniels, director of volunteer services and the gift shops.
Fundraising events in 2006 included Wee Care Closet, book fairs, a fashion show and leather, jewelry, handbag and accessory sales. For information about joining the auxiliary, call the Gary hospital at (219) 886-4533 or the Merrillville hospital at 738-5536.
