Methodist Hospitals 'Center of Excellence'
Methodist Hospitals has been designated an American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence. The ASMBS Center of Excellence designation recognizes surgical programs that have a demonstrated track record of favorable outcomes in bariatric surgery.
According to a report released this year by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the number of bariatric surgeries has grown from 16,000 procedures performed in 1992 to 170,000 performed in 2005.
To earn a Center of Excellence designation, Methodist Hospitals ReStart Center (formerly known as Center for Weight Loss Surgery) underwent a series of site inspections during which all aspects of the program's surgical processes were examined and data on health outcomes was collected.

Entrepreneurship initiative receives second grant
Valparaiso University’s entrepreneurship initiative received a second round of funding to support development of programs that will prepare students to become innovation leaders and help advance entrepreneurship across Northwest Indiana.
The Kern Entrepreneurship Education Network (KEEN) recently awarded VU a $50,000 grant that will be used to incorporate entrepreneurship into new and existing courses and host several events for the university and Northwest Indiana community over the next two years. VU was one of 10 universities in the country to receive a $50,000 KEEN Initiative grant in 2006 to launch its entrepreneurship initiative.
