Residents, organizations and medical professionals from around the state will come together Monday to hear Gov. Mitchell Daniels promote the Healthy Indiana Plan, according to the governor's office.
The state plan proposes insurance coverage for the 860,000 uninsured Hoosiers, including increased funding for childhood immunization and smoking-reduction programs through a higher cigarette tax.
Methodist Hospitals plans to send three vans of representatives to the rally that begins at 2:30 p.m. at the Statehouse North Atrium, 10 W. Washington St., Indianapolis, said Amber Raza, marketing communications spokeswoman.
"We are going to rally for the health insurance for all Hoosiers," said Dana Gore, a 20-year veteran nurse of Methodist Hospitals. "More people would probably seek more preventative health care if they had insurance."
Gore said nurses, health care professionals and agencies representatives plan to wear Methodist Hospitals T-shirts and carry literature.
"We hope for one of our hospital representatives to speak directly to the governor," Gore added. "It is our mission to be able to provide quality health care to all the residents in our area."
Methodist representatives join other Indiana hospitals and medical facilities who are sending participants.
St. Anthony Medical Center in Crown Point, an affiliate of the Sisters of St. Francis Health Services, is participating through its sister counterpart in Indianapolis, according to Katie Gora, coordinator of business development and marketing.
"We will be communicating that information back to the hospitals here and in corporate," Gora said.
Kenneth Severson, public affairs officer of Indiana Department of Health, said representatives from The American Lung Association, The American Heart Association, Minority Health Coalition and The American Cancer Society plan to attend.
"Doctors, nurses and a bus load of people from South Bend of concerned Hoosiers will also be leaving Monday morning," Severson said.
