Lending a helping hand

HOBART | Methodist Hospitals volunteers
gathered recently at Avalon Manor for the
Annual Awards Luncheon to celebrate the
accomplishments of the past year.
Dedicated volunteers were recognized for
reaching the milestones of 10, 20, 30 and
even 40 years of active, continuous service
to the hospital. The memory of volunteers
that have passed in the last year was
honored by Fredericka Davidson, past
president of the Methodist Hospitals
Auxiliary.
Annually, the auxiliary donates
scholarships to support nursing education.
This year $1,000 nursing scholarships were
awarded to IUN students Alicia Bravo, Megan
Krumm and Andrea Riley. Linda Rooda, dean of
Nursing and Health Professions at Indiana
University Northwest, expressed thanks to
the volunteers for their continued annual
support.
The highlight of the luncheon was the
presentation of a check for more than
$72,000 presented to Methodist Hospitals'
President/CEO Ian McFadden. The check was
presented by auxiliary President Connie
Hickman and represents the money raised
during the year through fundraising
activities sponsored by the volunteers.
"Our volunteers are the heart of
Methodist Hospitals and many times (they
are) the first contact an individual has
with the hospital. They are there to lend a
helping hand and offer a kind word,"
McFadden said.
"We will never be able to measure the
lasting impression the volunteers leave on
our patients and their families. In addition
to their daily presence at the hospital, the
auxiliary has provided valuable funding to
support scholarships for nursing students,
as well as various other programs and
equipment needs," he added.
