GARY | Dr. Hemendra Parikh, a local pediatrician, was the guest speaker at a recent medical conference held at The Methodist Hospitals' Northlake Campus attended by more than two dozen pediatricians and other medical and health specialists. The purpose of the conference was to help participants identify lupus symptoms in children, distinguish special problems of lupus in children, and analyze neonates of mothers with lupus.

During intensive care and trauma rotations, he puts in 27-hour shifts every four days.

The McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University will send 33 post-graduate physicians each year to Methodist Hospitals' emergency department at its Northlake campus in Gary. The program started in mid-July and is on its third round of residents.

A man came into the emergency department at Methodist Hospitals Northlake in Gary recently with a deep cut to his face.

One of the first doctors he saw for treatment was Dr. Chris Richards, a resident physician from Northwestern University's McGraw Medical Center. Richards is spending part of his emergency medicine residency at Methodist in Gary thanks to a new agreement between the hospital's emergency department and Northwestern that was officially announced Wednesday.
