Methodist Hospitals Shares Warmth This Holiday Season

Dec 13

Methodist Hospitals is celebrating the holidays with Angel Tree donations, patient visits from the Railcats and Methodist Max mascots, and special holiday meals for employees, Methodist choir performances, employee Christmas Book-Give-Away by the Gary Literacy Coalition and hospital staff confessions given by the Spiritual Care Department to prepare for the Christmas holiday.

Methodist Hospitals has once again teamed up with the Salvation Army to donate Angel Tree Gifts. This program collects and donates gifts to families with children who would be unable to receive presents on Christmas morning otherwise. Hospital staff members received an “Angel Child,” and donated gifts for him or her. The gifts were distributed to the families by the Salvation Army located in Gary, Indiana. The Salvation Army was overwhelmed with the 150 “Angel Child” gifts given by Methodist employees.

Rusty the Gary Railcats mascot and Max the Methodist Hospitals mascot will make their rounds through the Methodist Hospitals’ hallways to spread Christmas cheer. Rusty and Max will visit patients in Pediatrics and the Rehabilitation Units. Children and other patients will receive Methodist t-shirts, Railcats lanyards, and souvenir Railcats baseball bats. Patients can have their pictures taken with Rusty and Max. This is scheduled to start at our Northlake Campus on Monday, December 19th at 11:30 am and will move to the Southlake Campus around 1:00 p.m.

Methodist Hospitals is also celebrating the season with a holiday luncheon. Staff members will receive a special, complimentary meal. During the luncheons, the Methodist’s Holiday Choir will perform holiday favorites for staff and visitors on Wednesday, December 14th at our Northlake Campus and Thursday, December 15th at our Southlake Campus from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm. The choir will also visit the patient floors to share in the holiday spirit.

The Gary Literacy Coalition (a Methodist Hospitals partnership) is hosting a Christmas Book-Give –Away to all employees. The purpose of this program is to give a book to a child as a Christmas gift and encourage reading all year long. This was held at our Northlake Campus on Tuesday, December, 12th and is scheduled at our Southlake Campus on Thursday, December 14th from 8 am to 5 pm.

The Spiritual Care Department will offer The Sacrament of Reconciliation and holiday mass for staff members. This is a time for confession for hospital employees that need it as a part of the spiritual preparation for Christmas. Confessions will be held on Wednesday, December 21st from 2 to 4 p.m. at our Northlake Campus Chapel and on Thursday, December 22nd at our Southlake Campus in the Priest/Chaplain office. Christmas Mass will be held on December 25th at 11:00 am at our Southlake Campus in Classroom 2, and at 2:00 pm at our Northlake Campus Chapel.
