Spring Spa Day, an event made possible through the efforts of the oncology services department at Methodist Hospitals and support through the Pink Ribbon Society, provides breast cancer patients and survivors an opportunity to be educated and pampered. This year’s event will be held on April 26, 2008 at Methodist Hospitals’ Center for Advanced Clinical Studies from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. “We want this event to be a break from the stresses of being diagnosed or living with breast cancer. My goal is for these women to have a truly enjoyable experience, and understand that there is a network of people here that really care about them,” stated Marie Bates, Oncology Research Coordinator. The event focuses on physical & mental health, and gives attendees an opportunity to pamper themselves with services related to skin care, massage, fitness, and much more.
Breast Cancer Survivor Donna Dolniak will be speaking at the event. Donna was diagnosed with breast cancer in February 20, 2002. In addition to fighting breast cancer, Donna and her husband have adopted two special needs children from Poland. Seven year old Tyler came to them with a fetal alcohol background and five year old Adrianna has cerebral palsy.
Donna has become very active with the American Cancer Society. She is a member of the American Cancer Society’s Survivor Cultivation Committee and participates in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life as a team member for Ella’s Pride.
Most recently, Donna was a speaker at the American Cancer Society’s Corporate Kick Off Breakfast for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer where the entire audience embraced her and her story of becoming a breast cancer survivor.
“This is our second year providing this event, and we hope it continues to grow. Last year we received an overwhelmingly positive response from everyone who attended the event (including patients, vendors, and volunteers), “stated Marie.
